Let's Learn About American Badgers!

American badgers are a native carnivore found throughout much of the western and central United States, including Colorado. Recognizable by their stocky build, striking facial markings, and strong claws, badgers are incredible diggers. They build extensive underground burrow systems, which not only provide them shelter but also create important habitat for many other species.

These animals are solitary and primarily nocturnal, feeding on small mammals, ground-nesting birds, reptiles, and insects. As ecosystem engineers, they play a vital role in maintaining balance in prairie and grassland environments.

This particular badger was found orphaned earlier this year and successfully raised by Northern Colorado Wildlife Center's team in partnership with RMWA and released back into the wild—a story made possible because of the support that you show every day. 💚
