Sponsorship Update: Baby Snapping Turtles 🐒

Image
Sponsorship Update: Baby Snapping Turtles 🐒 If you haven’t heard, in November, 17 baby snapping turtles were rescued after being found cold, weak, and trapped in hardened mud at a local park. They are now safe and thriving in our care as they overwinter and prepare for release this spring. So far, five Turtle Heroes have stepped up to sponsor a hatchling! To these sponsors, including NoCo Clover Botique, Turtle Plastics, and more—thank you for helping to save their lives!!! However, 12 baby turtles are still looking for their hero, and we’re hoping you’ll be one of them. Each $1,000 care sponsorship directly supports one hatchling’s specialized winter care and includes naming rights, recognition, and a certificate of symbolic adoption. If you or your business are interested in sponsoring a turtle, or are still looking for a meaningful tax write-off to top off 2025, please email info@nocowildlife.org or text 970-283-7822! Be sure to include the name or logo you’d like on th...

This is the impact of one person spending one hour cleaning up litter from one lake.

Image
This is the impact of one person spending one hour cleaning up litter from one lake. Fishing line, lead weights, cans, zip ties, rusted nails, straws, and other discarded debris pulled from a single shoreline — all items that pose a serious threat to wildlife. Birds, turtles, mammals, and fish can become entangled, injured, or killed by litter that’s often overlooked or left behind. When one person chooses to stop, notice, and take action, the impact is immediate. Fewer hazards in the water. Fewer animals at risk. A healthier space for wildlife and people alike. Moments like this remind us that conservation doesn’t always start with big programs or sweeping policies — sometimes it starts with one person, one place, and one hour. Thank you to everyone who takes the time to care for the places wildlife call home. πŸ’š Learn more at www.nocowildlife.org  . . . #wildlife #litter #habitatcleanup #naturalarea #Colorado  πŸ“· Tallon Nightwalker

Sponsor a Baby Turtle at NoCo Wildlife Center!

Image
Still searching for a meaningful Christmas gift for the animal lover in your life? Northern Colorado Wildlife Center has a truly special option. In November, our team rescued 17 baby snapping turtles after they were found cold, weak, and trapped in hardened mud at a local park. They’re now safe and thriving, but surviving the winter takes time, resources, and round‑the‑clock care. Each hatchling will remain with us through spring and requires over $1,000 in specialized support, including heated aquatic housing, water filtration systems, proper nutrition, veterinary oversight, daily monitoring, and more. That’s why we’re offering 17 care sponsorships; one for each turtle. A sponsorship makes a powerful holiday gift and includes (all optional): • The chance to choose a name for one of the baby snapping turtle hatchlings • A personalized symbolic adoption certificate to gift or keep • Recognition on social media as a hero of native turtle conservation • Your name or business l...

Did you know Northern Colorado Wildlife Center operates one of Colorado's Largest Wildlife Orphanages? πŸ’š

Image
Colorado Gives Day is almost here, and we need your help now more than ever. As we prepare for the thousands of injured, orphaned, and displaced wild animals who will rely on us in 2026, we’re asking our community to stand with us during the biggest giving week of the year. This past year alone, we’ve provided care to nearly 2,000 wild animals; from hummingbirds and songbirds to porcupines, badgers, rabbits, turtles, and so many others who simply wouldn’t have survived without help. Every one of those animals arrived because someone believed they deserved a second chance, and because this community makes that possible. Now, we’re hoping you’ll help us continue this life-saving work. A gift of any size truly makes a difference; even $5 or $10 adds up when a whole community comes together. And with a generous matching challenge on the line, your donation helps unlock an additional $2,000 for wildlife in need if made between now and December 9th!  Ready to help us save mor...

Winter Roads Are Dangerous for Wildlife — Here’s How You Can Help

Image
At Northern Colorado Wildlife Center, this is the time of year when we see a significant increase in patients injured on roadways. When snow covers the ground, wildlife often finds roads easier to travel than deep snow or icy fields. But animals cannot comprehend the dangers that come with human-made environments: fast-moving cars, limited visibility, and distracted drivers. That’s why it’s on us, as drivers, to stay vigilant. Slow down, drive distraction-free, and always stop for wildlife you see crossing the road. A few seconds of caution from us can mean survival for an animal simply trying to find food, shelter, or a safe place to rest. And if you ever witness someone intentionally harming wildlife with a vehicle, you are encouraged to safely document the license plate and report it to local law enforcement. Intentionally striking wildlife is illegal in Colorado, and reporting it helps protect both animals and our community. Our team will continue doing everything we ca...

From NoCo Wildlife Center: Watch for Grebes in Need During Snowstorms!

Image
We’ve already begun receiving calls about grebes in need, and with more winter storms on the way, we want to help our community know what to watch for. Grebes are diving birds whose legs sit far back on their bodies; an adaptation that makes them incredible swimmers but leaves them almost helpless on land. Because they must take off from water, a grebe that lands on solid ground cannot regain flight. After snowstorms, it’s common for grebes flying overhead to mistake wet, shiny, or snow covered roads and parking lots for rivers or lakes. Once they land, they quickly become stranded, unable to stand or fly, and are at serious risk from the cold, predators, vehicles, and exhaustion. If you find a grebe grounded on land, they need help. If it’s safe, contain them in a dark, breathable box and contact your local wildlife rehabilitator right away.  Most grebes can be fully rehabilitated when they reach us quickly, but only if compassionate community members know what to look...
